Project and Programme Management

Clients bring us in when a piece of work needs someone who can both run it and understand it. We plan and manage the delivery, judge whether the technical approach is sound, and stay accountable for the result. Insurgent Studios has done this from Edinburgh since 2005, on individual projects and across longer programmes.

What we manage

  • Whole projects. Managing the development of a product through to release, with its technical direction.
  • Programmes. Several pieces of research and development running over a number of years.
  • Production. Internal teams, contractors and outsourced suppliers, kept to schedule and to the client’s standards.
  • The relationships around the work. Clients, publishers, funders, licensors and brand owners.
  • Oversight. An independent view of delivery on behalf of the people responsible for it.

Projects and programmes

These are examples, not a full list. Some of the work we have managed is confidential and is not described on this site.

Rail Simulator. We provided project management and technical direction for the PC railway simulation developed by Kuju Entertainment, funded by Fund4Games and published by Electronic Arts. We managed it through to release in 2007, and stayed for the handover to the successor company that is today Dovetail Games.

ITI Techmedia and ITI Life Sciences. For two of the Scottish Enterprise-funded Intermediary Technology Institutes we provided project management and technical expertise across pre-commercialisation research and development programmes, covering e-learning, gamification, data analysis and information extraction.

Production for brands. Through the VEEMEE studio we managed three years of interactive spaces for Audi in PlayStation Home, multiple seasons of virtual clothing and a storefront for Billabong, and a clothing range for Wrangler. That work meant managing internal artists, contractors and outsourced production alongside client liaison and brand compliance. On Audi A1 Beat Driver it also meant licensing music from publishers and record labels.

BTL Group. Project management oversight, alongside technical due diligence, for a blockchain technology company during the development of its platform.

How an engagement runs

Engagements vary in length. Managing a product through to release is a long commitment, and a programme longer still: the ITI work continued over a number of years. Oversight can be much shorter, and is sometimes where an engagement starts. Rail Simulator began as a due diligence and became the management of the product itself.

We are equally comfortable with a fixed piece of work and with a standing responsibility that has to be kept running.

If you have a project that needs managing, tell us about it. Our other services are described separately.
