In December 2025, we released SoniQueue, our alternative third-party Sonos controller app for Android. It grew out of our own listening habits and a desire for a few extra tools for the way we use our speakers.
We love Sonos systems, but everyday listening can involve more than choosing an album and pressing play. A podcast needs a quick rewind, a long mix needs a precise jump to a particular moment, or a favourite internet radio station needs adding to the collection. SoniQueue was built with those moments in mind.
The app connects to speakers over the local Wi-Fi network, bringing speaker discovery, room grouping, playback and volume controls together. Local library browsing and search help listeners find their own music, while queue controls make it easy to reorder tracks and decide what plays next.
Long-form listening is a particular focus. Skip-forward and skip-back controls, alongside a position scrubber with a live timestamp, help listeners navigate podcasts, audiobooks and extended mixes. Custom radio streams offer another way to make the system their own, with support for adding stations through direct stream links.
SoniQueue also makes speaker connection information visible, helping listeners understand their setup when thick walls or an awkward room layout make Wi-Fi coverage challenging.
The aim is a practical companion for everyday listening, with local speaker control and no advertising or tracking. The official Sonos app remains useful for system setup and music services; SoniQueue offers an additional way to control and enjoy the speakers already in your home.
